New Digital Camera

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005 - Comments (0) in Nerd Stuff

After the wedding last weekend I decided I really want a new digital camera. My original camera was an Olympus D-460 I bought from Dave (my old roommate) when he won it as a door price like 5 years ago. It was only 1.3 Megapixel with 3x optical zoom, but it did what I needed for many years. The main problem was the speed; it would take forever to take a picture. It would take even longer to turn on and off.

My new camera is a Nikon Coolpix 7600. It can do 7.1 Megapixel pictures and is 100000 times faster. It also happens to be about 1/3 of the size of the old camera. This is nice because I do like taking a camera when I go places but I don't want a huge bulky thing. This new camera can also do 640x480 video (with sound). The only length limit on the video is the amount of storage you have in the camera. I'll put up some pictures as soon as I can find something interesting to shoot.

Colleen and Fred's Wedding

Saturday, November 26th, 2005 - Comments (2) in Life

Rachelle's coworker Colleen and her fiance got married yesterday. The driving directions that came with the invitation weren't exactly crystal clear so we (and from what I hear about 12 other people) got totally lost getting to the church. The problem was that the directions said "Turn right on route 18 east". Simple enough but there were 2 route 18 east's that were about 5 miles apart from each other and we were supposed to take the second one. I guess they are technically the same road but go different places, I'm still confused. So we ended up going like 10 miles out of the way and were 15 minutes late to the wedding. I hate being late with a passion.

The ceremony was very nice, simple and to the point. I heard that Christina (another coworker) did a reading but we missed it.

The reception was also fun. Instead of a head table there was a little table for two (guess which two?) in the middle of all the other tables. I've never seen that kind of setup before but I liked it. There was a big fireplace heating the room up during the event but they let it burn out toward the end of the evening causing me to freeze my tail off. I'm not a big dancer so that's probably why I was cold.

Thanksgiving and Everything Else

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005 - Comments (0) in Life

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Rachelle and I are driving to Barfalo for dinner with her family this year. Last year we had everyone over to our house, which was nice but a lot of work cleaning before and after. It's supposed to snow pretty hard tomorrow (surprise surprise) so hopefully I won't have a heart attack driving on the thruway in all the snow.

Speaking of snow, I have a snowblower now! Hot shit right? It's a 30 year old two stage blower that my dad found on eBay for me. Yeah it may look like a turd but they just don't make them like this anymore. It still starts on the first pull and runs great. I can't wait for the first big snow when I can throw it from my driveway over onto my neighbor's driveway AHHAHA.

Last night Rachelle, her friend Caryn and I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the new one with Johnny Depp). I had pretty low expectations based on the recent reviews but was pleasantly surprised. I really liked it; mostly because it wasn't just a scene for scene remake, but had different people different scenes and even a look into Willy's childhood. I read the book when I was in 6th grade or sometime around then and the one thing that stuck with me all these years was the description of the Oompa-Loompa's eating mashed up caterpillars. They included a scene like that in the movie, it was gross.
