Christmas Tree

Monday, December 22nd, 2008 - Comments (3) in Holidays, Life

This year for a Christmas tree we went with a "boy scout special" from in the village. Originally we planned on going to some tree farm out in Penfield, but when we got there they were closed. It was a Friday at like 5:10pm and they closed at 5. What kind of place that sells Christmas trees is going to close at 5 during Christmas season?! It was ridiculous. It was also practically a blizzard at the time, so we just drove into a plaza in town where the boy scouts were selling.

Us just before the reunion

Last week was my 10 year high school reunion! At Harley we have an alumni department that coordinates reunions and tries to stay in touch with everyone, but for my school it was organized by a few classmates through email and facebook. I was really amazed they were able to wrangle so many of us who have scattered all over the country.

I was actually really nervous going into this event. I'm not quite sure why; I've known most of those people for years, and I'm way skinnier now than I was back in high school. I'm just mostly not a big crowd person. I also have this thing about names. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to remember the names of anyone. It's just me being mental. One thing they did that I thought was a genius idea was scan our senior yearbook picture and made it into a thing to hang around your neck. So we all had little badges with old pictures and names hanging around our necks. I enjoyed watching people look at my badge as I walked by, I think I look the same, but maybe not.

It was great to see everyone who showed up, but it would've been better to see everyone. I know for a fact there were many people who even lived in town that didn't show. I was looking forward to seeing a few of them, but I guess I'll have to make my own plans to see them the next time I'm in town.

Pocket Dialing

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 - Comments (4) in Life, Nerd Stuff

A couple months ago I posted about my new LG enV2 cell phone. After living with this phone for a while I had actually grown to really dislike it. Up until about a year ago I limited myself to flip phones to protect the screen and buttons. Technically speaking the env2 is a flip phone, but this one has buttons on the outside and can be used as if it weren't. As a result, I would end up pocket dialing everyone. I even sent a few pocket txt messages.

A couple of days ago Rachelle found online that there was a firmware update released for this phone (version vx910v06) that addressed the pitiful key lock. With the original firmware there was only a choice of no key lock or a one-step lock. This required you to only hit the OK button to unlock the keypad. This didn't work so well. With the new version they added a two-step lock which requires you to hit OK and then the CLR button. Since these buttons are basically next to each other this is still a failure, but it is more effective than the one one-step. I wish they would let you pick which keys to use; maybe I'll suggest that to LG (over and over again).
