Mouse Master

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

I am the mouse master! Yesterday morning after I got out of the shower, I had to run down to the basement to get my clothes out of the dryer. When I got to the bottom of the basement stairs I saw 4 baby mice scatter in all directions. So I got dressed and set a bunch of traps right where I saw them. I waited about 15 minutes and went back down to check the traps. All of them were empty...but I heard a little rustling over by the dryer. I crept over there and saw 3 of the mice frolicking around in a clear shopping bag. I grabbed the bag by the handles and captured all 3! I hung the back on the doorknob while I put my shoes on and got all my crap ready for work, and then took it with me to Harley. I let the mice go out in the back soccer field.

There was still one of those little bastards left down in the basement so I expected it to be in one of the traps when I got home from work. While Rachelle was napping I went down and checked. When I set a mouse trap I put it in a brown paper lunch back. This way I can just pick the bag up without having to touch the mouse. So I picked up the first back and looked inside. The trap was still set, the bait was gone and the little sucker was in the bag running around trying to get out! I don't know what he was waiting for, maybe for me to refill the trap with peanut butter.

All in all it was a good day for mouse hunting.

We had a mouse once. I named him Todd. We caught him with a sticky trap and let him go by the garbage/recycling drop off center in some fields.

Todd also crawled on John while he was napping once and John screamed like a girl. At least that is how he told the story, I unfortunately, didn't witness it.

Todd is a good name. Especially for a mouse.

When I lived with my sister, in the basement area, my room had a drop ceiling and at night the little suckers would run around above the ceiling tiles keeping me up at night. I would go to bed with a yard stick and everytime I heard it, I would lay in bed and tap the tile with the yard stick to get it to stop. My sister's cat at the time would sometimes sit on my bed at night and listen to it as well, but could not get it of course. One time it went into the bathroom next door where some tiles were missing and it would drop on top of the dryer. That would get me out of bed. I don't miss that!
Of course they also had flying squirrels. Got up one morning to go to the bathroom and there it was hanging on the doorway to the bathroom. I screamed, which still never woke up my sister upsstairs. I had to go and wake her up. We eventually got it to fly into the cat cage and get it outside. Don't miss that either.
