Jason's Wedding

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

A couple weekends ago we were in Albany for my friends Jason and K's wedding. This was my first experience as a best-man and I was glad to find out it was nowhere near as involved as being a bridesmaid/maid of honor. Don't get me wrong, I would've been happy to do anything for him, but there just wasn't that much to do. I already wrote about his bachelor party, which was a great time. Other than that I just had to hang onto the rings and make sure Jason didn't freak out before the ceremony. I was pretty sure I was going to fail that last part, but he held it together. I kept telling him to sit down and relax but he just wanted to pace around the room.

They had a catholic ceremony and I was delighted to find out they insisted on the condensed version. Everyone loves weddings when the ceremony is only 15-20 minutes long. I can't take it when they drag on for over an hour. The other groomsmen got to sit in the first pew during the ceremony but the maid of honor and I had to sit in chairs next to the bride and groom. It was a little more "in the spotlight" than I'm usually comfortable with, but I'm sure nobody was looking at me.

I'm usually taller than everyone, so that doesn't faze me. However I was significantly taller than the maid of honor Jackie. As I understood it, she had some monster heels on and I was still well over a foot taller than her. The only time I was really standing next to her was when we walked out of the church and then were introduced at the reception.

The photographer must have been very sure of himself because he really didn't take many shots of the various poses. With our photographer, after weeding out the out of focus and eyes shut shots, we still had like 800 pictures to pick through. Maybe he took more than I thought, it just seemed like the pictures didn't take very long.

The reception was at The Appel Inn. It was a great place for the reception; it was the perfect size for the number of people there, it was very nicely laid out and not too far from the hotel. The reception was earlier (3-9), so after it ended many of us went to the bar right next to the hotel to hang out for a while.

I had a great time; I'm really happy for Jason and K and am glad they wanted me to be part of their special day. It was great to see some of my college friends I haven't seen in years.
